Fundraising is underway to support the festival founded by Victoria Amelina
Friends and family of Victoria Amelina whose life was cut short by the Russian occupiers’ missile attack on a restaurant in Kramatorsk on 27 June 2023, began raising funds to support the New York Literary Festival established by Victoria in the Donetsk region.
"But we will still build our new European home in our Ukrainian New York," Victoria wrote in her curatorial statement for the first edition of the festival she founded in 2021. "The home where real stories and real names are sought for and every Ukrainian’s merit, regardless of their origin, views or beliefs, is seen, therefore. New York, after all – both New Yorks we know – is appreciated for welcoming everyone like at home. Everyone who comes to embrace in return, not to shell, of course."
These days, our common thoughts are with our dearest Victoria Amelina and her family.
You can provide Victoria’s loved ones with the best support – a contribution to the main job of her life which certainly should be continued – the New York Literary Festival in the Donetsk region.
Russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine made it impossible to hold the festival in the frontline town of New York since 2022; still, Victoria went on with her various cultural and educational initiatives within the festival.
On top of everything else, we would like Victoria’s life work to be continued. Thus, we kindly ask everyone who has such an opportunity to support the New York Literary Festival.
Upon consent of Victoria’s family, funds for the festival initiatives are raised by our colleague, Victoria’s friend and one of the festival project curators Olya Rusina:
